our story

After being married for a few years, my husband and I decided that if we were to have a family, we really needed to start trying seriously. After all, I was approaching 40, and soon it could be too late. Gathering research on getting pregnant, we started putting more effort into “detoxifying” – to increase our chances of success – and support a healthy pregnancy if we did succeed. The first thing I did was to throw away all our household chemical products – I put them in a garbage bag and started from scratch. (Interestingly, it was not easy to dispose of these things – further proving to me that they were questionable!)

At this same time, we decided I would leave my position at a large consumer product corporation where I had worked for ten years – I was ready to start my own business and do something that would be personally rewarding. I began working with small companies in bringing products to market – a great match of leveraging my experience with a hunger for entrepreneurship.

This was an exciting time! Amongst all the change, we focused on our environment more, including spending time in the garden. Not naturally gifted here – we faced challenges like rosebush beetles and other pests. But how to avoid them? I saw that most products had warnings if we had pets – and we have a cherished yellow lab! In protecting her, we thought, “Hey, if it isn’t good for her, could it really be good for us???”

More and more we were faced with situations where our goals of simplicity and detoxifying were changing what we did and how we did them.
What we were buying and where we were shopping was evolving, and in talking to friends and family, it was evolving for them too. We started buying new brands – some we liked, some we did not. After being confused by all the unknown natural personal care products, my husband suggested that we launch a brand – a brand that is natural, but delivers a lot more than that! Make it available where most people shop and at a reasonable price. We confirmed that this was really an opportunity!

My husband, Benjamin, has a great appreciation for wine and would always share with me its multitude of health benefits. So when I came across a small line of upscale spa products made with grape seeds, Benjamin urged, “This could be the opportunity!” The idea of using the natural byproducts of the wine-making process appealed to our new environmental awareness. We began working with a microbiologist in Boulder and confirmed real scientific benefits: grape seeds, like several other seeds, are intrinsically concentrated with incredible antioxidants and essential fatty acids promoting healthy skin.

So, from what we believe is the concentrated essence of life – seeds – we launch our 100% Natural brand with multiple benefits derived from nature. By focusing on the Power of a Tiny Seed (and the exponential power of other beneficial natural ingredients), we hope to connect with people like ourselves – those seeking a healthier, more natural lifestyle, but uncompromising in their expectations that products deliver on their promises.

And Seed was born.
